Who is violetdolor?

My name is Jade-Ceres Violet G. Dolor. I’ve been working as a professional writer for the past 6 years but I am currently employed as a Search Engine Marketing Manager.

I studied in DLSU and majored in Literature. Later, I realized that this isn’t worth much in the corporate arena. Really, who wants to hire literary writer? While in school, I won several contests in English Creative Writing, Journalism and Filipino Non-Fiction. I was also the Vice President for External Affairs of the Literature Circle and a member of the Malate Literary Folio. I was a consecutive Dean’s Lister to boot. Back then, I thought that was big. Turns out no one really cares about my academic achievements.

Went to California right after college. Worked as a secretary for a real estate agency. Two month later I became their Transaction Coordinator. Another four months into the job, I became a loan processor. At 21, I think I was the youngest in the industry. I had to talk to banks and make sure that people got the money they need for their new home. I was so stressed out I ended up coloring my hair a fiery red (ala Phoenix reborn). I took on a part time job as an L.A.Correspondent for Philippine News, an Asian American newspaper based in South San Francisco.

About three years later, I came back home. I worked in Global Sources as a copy editor for Electronic Components..a technical trade magazine. That drove me even crazier. I quit about 6 months later. Not a bad experience though, I met some of the most talented writers there.

I took a year off. Living off writing for Philippine News as their only Manila Correspondent.

Then in 2005, I worked again as a corporate slave. I worked for iFLOOR.com, the largest online flooring retailer in the US as a copywriter. About mid-year, I started with Zimplizity Solutions / DirectWithHotels as a Web Copywriter. I worked with the Launch unit, but was occasionally pulled out for special Z-team projects.

I quit iFLOOR (Lake Washington Communications is their local arm) about 1 year and 9 months later. Moved to Branders.com. Had a blast. It was one of the best companies I’ve ever worked for. Had a party almost every week. Free food every night from some of the best caterers in town. My manager, the design goddess Kay, was so nice to me. I loved Aimee and Joie and the rest of the marketing gang. Alberto always made me laugh at how stupid I can get. Of course, old pals from iFLOOR were also there, Alquin and Marc made sure my transition was smooth.

6 months later, I realized I wanted to be something else. I had a very short stint as the Interactive Marketing Manager of TeeBone Golf. I learned a lot from them, but Zimplizity made me an offer that really had me thinking.

I’ve been with Zimplizity for about a year and a half as a part-timer. I helped launch 130 hotels. I wrote the first version of the 85-page Launch manual. At the same time, I was moonlighting for the Z-team as a web copywriter. I learned all that I know about SEO from them. They asked me to be a full-time member of the Z-team as the Search Engine Marketing Manager. I took the job and I’ve been loving it ever since.

Now, I also work as a consultant for Morphlabs. They are heading the SaaS initiative in the Philippines with Morph helpME, an on-demand help and training application. There’s also Morph eXchange, the SaaS marketplace, now offering app spaces for Ruby on Rails applications.

While I’ve been working 13-hour days for the past two years, life’s not all about that. I have a boyfriend I love, friends I cherish and a family I simply can’t live without.

Life is good.
